Did you know that...
now is the time to cut back your trees?
Deciduous trees are best cut back in the cold season between November and February when their branches are sapless.
Birch, Maple and Walnut trees tend to bleed profusely from cuts. They should be cut back in the period up to December as the sap of these trees already begins to flow into the shoots from January/February onwards. As soon as growth begins in the following spring the cuts heal quickly.
Exceptions are stone fruit trees (such as cherries, plums, apricots etc.), which are prone to winter diseases (e.g. silver leaf infection). In these cases cutting back takes place in mid summer.
Evergreen shrubs are cut back in the spring (March, April).
