Tree care

Particularly in urban environments, trees are exposed to heavy environmental impacts. Professional care helps to support their growth and reduce the danger potential associated with neglected and diseased trees. Our tree experts carry out the following works: removal of dead wood, crown cuts, new planting, replanting, tree survey and tree registry reporting, information on Viennese tree protection legislation and tree felling (even at sites with difficult access) including obtaining necessary permits.

Particularly in cities, trees fulfil important functions for its inhabitants such as offering shade, acting as screens and sound absorbers, pollutant filter, oxygen producer and much more.

Conditions for trees in urban areas are tough (high levels of ground pollutants, insufficient water and nutrients, limited space for root and crown development) and therefore require special measures to keep trees healthy. It is also important to recognise and prevent risks that can emanate from the trees, such as falling branches etc. We offer professional monitoring and care of your tree population, maintaining their “traffic safety” and advise you on weighing up between tree and building protection and also carry out tree care, tree surgery and tree felling according to the Viennese Tree Protection regulations. Our professionals can help you protect your tree population against infestation of leaf miner or oak procession moths.

Tree Control – Surveys – Tree Registry

  • According to Regulation §1319 ABGB, the owner of a tree (also councils, schools, kindergartens, etc.) are liable for any damages caused by them.
  • Regular checking of the tree population, i.e. visual inspection for rotten branches, injuries, fungus or pests, and recording of the respective conditions in the tree registry not only protect your trees, but also ensure timely action for necessary remedial measures. This also ensures compliance with mandatory regulation with regard to traffic safety and protects you from damages and costly liability claims.
  • Tree surveys also help prevent damages and liability claims. Tree stability and break resistance, also of the crown, are tested through our hoisting platforms and teams of tree workers (climbers).
  • Professionals are in a position to decide whether a tree can be saved by cutting off dead parts or whether felling is necessary.

Tree Felling – Transplanting – Replacement

  • In the event that a tree becomes unstable, it will need to be felled or cleared to prevent any possible damages.
  • The same applies to the protection of buildings, when intrusive roots and crowns endanger the safety of surrounding buildings; as an alternative it is possible to consider transplanting the tree.
  • According to the Viennese tree protection regulations, a felled tree needs to be either replanted or a compensation payment made. Usually the former is the less expensive version (flat rate per tree € 1,090.- as per March 2006).
  • We also are happy to help with necessary documentation for the authorities and can apply with the council on your behalf for tree removals.

Tree Surgery (removal of dead wood, crown care cut and crown safety cut)

  • Why do we cut wood? Aim is to get or recover an evenly distributed, permeable crown with as many horizontal branches as possible for resistant, stable trees and shrubs.
  • Crown care cut – the following cuts can be distinguished:
Plant cut: for seedlings, restores the balance between crown and reduced root network through transplantation.
Regulation/build-up cut: annual crown cut for a vigorous crown framework for main crop season.
Preservation/Crop cut: cutting out to prevent compaction and bareness.
Rejuvenation cut: optimises the ratio of bearing and side branches, to ensure good growth of fruit-bearing wood.
Cup cut: to ensure thick, load-bearing stems and branches (particularly for fruit trees).
  • There are no set rules for tree surgery which apply to all species.
  • Crown safety cut serves for the preservation of trees notwithstanding “wrong development”, i.e. removal of dead wood or cutting measures for reduction of crown breakage danger.
  • We are at your disposal to give expert advice on and to professionally carry out all above mentioned and associated works (such as pruning of shrubs and climbers).
