Did you know that...

a mild winter not only promotes the propagation of leaf miner moths but also of the oak procession moth? Whilst the leaf miner moth is not harmful to humans, the oak procession moth caterpillars have poisonous hairs, which can cause inflammations (usually to the skin, but also to the respiratory system).

The best time to implement plant protection measures for both these plant pests is between April to mid May as it catches them at their larvae-stage. Through close inspection during this period it can be established whether an oak tree has become infected by the oak procession moth.

We recommend spraying of the trees with a moulting inhibitor, which prevents the young larvae from further development.
